Once lived a pious brahmin in a village who made his living by performing rituals and poojas.  Once day he was called by a rich land lord in that village to perform pooja.  The brahmin performed the pooja.  The Land lord was so happy with the performance that he gave a healthy cow to the brahmin as reward.

There were 3 rogues in the villages who were very lazy.  They never did any work and always cheated others for their living.  They saw the brahmin walking back to his house along with the cow.  They wanted the cow for themselves so that they can sell it to somebody and get easy money.

So they made a plan.  One of the 3 thugs ran towards the brahmin and asked the brahmin,  "Oh pious man why are you talking this donkey with you.  You are a brahmin and only washermen use donkeys."

This annoyed the brahmin but he just ignored the rogue and walked without bothering to answer him.

After sometimes another rogue ran towards the brahmin and asked him why he was pulling a pig along with him.  The brahmin was shocked but continued to walk towards his house.

After sometimes the last of the 3 thugs walked towards him and asked the brahmin, "Why are you pulling a wild animal with you.  Its too dangerous to make friendship with wild animals because they can hurt you."

At this point the brahmin got totally confused.  He thought the cow he was given as gift was actually some devil animal which change form every now and then.  He got so scared that he left the cow and ran away from there.  

Because of the brahmins foolishness the 3 thugs succeeded in their scheme, and the poor brahmin had to loose his cow.

Moral of the Story:  NEVER BELIEVE ANYTHING YOU SEE, HEAR WITHOUT ANALYZING IT PROPERLY. 

About Panchatantra

Panchatantra are collection of five volumes of stories written by a guru or teacher to instruct his students the different aspects of life, how a king reacts at different situations.  These five volumes serves as a guide for perspective king.  It gives knowledge about how to rule a country, how to choose friends, how to choose ministers and other good conducts of life.

These stories are not alone interesting for children but also guides the parents to guide their children towards values in human life.  Every Panchatantra story has a moral.

King and the 3 sons

Once upon a time there was a king known as Amarashakti who ruled over a kingdom called Mahilaropyam in South India.  He was a clever and good ruler.  He was blessed with 3 sons.  But to his utter disappointment all the 3 of his sons were dim wits.

The king was very upset and disappointed with his sons.  He was worried about the future of his kingdom and its people because non of his son was capable of becoming a king and guiding his country or protect it from foreign invations.

He summoned his ministers and conducted a meeting so as to how to educate his sons and how to make them into capable kings.

One of the minister suggested the name of a learned guru named Vishnu Sharman, a great scholar who was respected by his disciples. 

The minister said  “He is the most competent person to tutor your children. Entrust them to his care and very soon you will see the change.” 

The king summoned Vishnu Sharman to his court and pleaded to him saying, "Oh learned one,  you are the only one in this world who can tutor my sons, so that they can become good kings and lead the country.  If you succeed in this,  I will makr you the leader for 100 villages".

To this Vishnu Sharman said  "Oh king,  I am not interested in any of the village you are offering.  But I will accept the challenge and educate your sons.  In case I am going to fail in this task I will change my name".

The king called his sons and handed them over to the Guru.

The Guru took them to his ashram and started educating them regarding the five strategies of life "THE PANCHATANTRAS'.

Vishnu Sharman kept his words and made the 3 sons of the good king into learned men in 6 months time. 

Since then, Panchatantra became popular all over the world as children's guide in solving problems of life.
